The Sahuarita Food Bank is an independent and self-governing Agency of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, run by all volunteers, and serves the nutritionally needy of southern Pima County and Santa Cruz County, mostly Sahuarita. The food bank is hosted by The Good Shepherd, United Church of Christ at 17750 La Cañada Drive in Sahuarita. We serve over 180 local families a month, distributing 125,000 lbs. of food a year. Our BackPack Program serves 110 nutritionally ‘at-risk’ Sahuarita children a week, providing them with supplemental healthy food over the weekends.

We are looking for volunteers to staff our Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning food bank operations, to make food pick-ups from the community food banks in Tucson and Green Valley, to prepare BackPack bags, and to assist in inventory management.  (NOTE: The above tasks can entail repetitive lifting/moving packages up to 50 lbs. in weight.) Additionally, we are looking for volunteers interested in serving on our operational committees, such as publicity and fund-raising.  We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of four hours per month while they are resident in the area.
