The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a federal program that provides supplemental food to low-income individuals and families, and is administered here through the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). Families are eligible to receive TEFAP Boxes if they rest within 185% of the federal poverty guidelines. The Sahuarita Food Bank distributes USDA / Arizona DES emergency food boxes, and they can be picked up once a month. If you would like to receive one, proof of residence (e.g. utility bill) is required upon arrival. A family of 1-3 receives 1 box, a family of 4-6 receives 2 boxes, and a family of 7+ receives 3 boxes. Each box usually contains rice, beans, mac & cheese, cereal, canned fruit or vegetables, peanut butter, and soup. An example of what a TEFAP Box may contain appears just below.
